about

This album was recorded in our loft apartment in the historic Upper Pontalba building, overlooking Saint Louis Cathedral and the mighty Mississippi River in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. From our vantage point atop this ever-enigmatic corner of the world, we make this note on life and times: the City. The core of these songs was tracked live in an attempt to capture the integrity of spirit that arises when music is played in a room where the focal point is the joy of the moment, nothing less or more. Music, at its very best, is truth. Truth offered up in a new context that allows for the beauty to be revealed in the cracks of our perception. You cannot summon Truth at will; you can only set the table, make provisions and hope this honored guest stops by to break some bread. Truth usually slips in once you’ve turned your head the other way. She cleans her plate and goes about her business. You’ll know she was there as your cup overflows. Thank you for joining us. Welcome to our table. - KD

Track Name: God's Chambers
Someone is hiding up in God’s Chambers
trading righteousness out for gold
They’re stealing up all the silver lining
leaving us with nothing but the clouds

Well the devil, he’s a working man,
but that don’t make him honest
Fair is fair, but it ain’t fair,
trading skin for profits
And this world it ain’t gonna wait for you,
no matter if you want it to

Someone is hiding up in God’s Chambers,
trading righteousness out for coins,
They’re stealing up all the silver lining
leaving us with nothing but the clouds
Track Name: My River
I’m going down to my river
back to where I began
I’m going to sink my feet right in
that there Delta river bed

And if I don’t come on back
you will know
that my soul
is at rest

Now I’ve been trying to make a home
from a rented apartment on a Brooklyn 3rd floor
But no new paint and no furniture
can build me a home like the one that I come from

And if I don’t come on back
you will know
that my soul
is at rest

All this time that I spent waiting around
well, you don’t got to wait for me now
All that time that I spent messing around
well, you don’t have to wait, no you don’t have to wait

Cause I’m going down now, to my river
back to where I began
I’m going to sink, my feet right in
that there Delta river bed

and if I don’t come on back
you will know
that my soul
is at rest
Track Name: Reckless and Free
We’ve been running ‘round for days now

Your body’s aching, but it just can’t slow down
I know you’re tired, but you’re still true
You were just looking for some gospel on an all night avenue

It might seem reckless,
Maybe we’re reckless, but we are free

We now sleep with the doors wide open, cause
What we value, it can’t be stolen, by
Hands of strangers or acts of God
Cause it’s all upon your body babe, it’s running through your blood

It might seem reckless, maybe we’re reckless,
But we are free

The one who shares his name, she will let him
Swim the oceans & climb the mountains
Because she knows well, that true love is
Infinite & it will be in all that you have not seen yet

It might seem reckless,
Maybe it’s reckless, but we are free
Reckless and so free
Track Name: I'll Be Leaving
I’ll be leaving, just as soon as I gather my things
I’ll be going, and I ain’t coming back here again

Oh, my darlin girl, hope you miss me when I am gone
but I know that you, will be better off on your own

Now my darlin, I hope you understand
The best thing I could do for you, is to be leaving

When the morning comes, I will be gone
When that new day breaks child, you will be on your own
Oh my darlin one, I did love you true
but I could not be good to you and love you too

We had good days, they were few and far in between
I was just a child, when you needed a man out of me
But I hung around, hoping one day that I would grow
into the coat of a suit that I ain’t never worn

Now my darlin, I hope you understand
The best thing I could do for you, is to be leaving

When that morning comes, I will be gone
When your new day breaks child, you will be on your own
Now my darlin one, I did love you true
but I could not be good to you and love you too
Track Name: True and Natural Man
I’ve been searching the land, I go far and I go wide
But I never touched a hand that felt so right
Like a true & natural man, a true and natural man

I have shared this heart with those before
But no one knew how to hold it like they should
Like the moon lights up the night,
It’s your love that sets me right

Cause you’re a true and natural, natural man
And I’m gonna love you darlin, just long as I can
Cause you’re the one original, in god’s master plan
You are my true and natural man, my true and natural man

Like a cypress tree, waiting for its time
To take the brunt of the storm, to protect the shore line
The storms may come and go, but with you I will always know

You’re my true and natural, natural man
And I’m gonna love you darlin, as long as I can
Cause you’re the one original, in god’s master plan
You are my true and natural man
You are my true and natural man

My mind is changing now, because you have shown me how...

To love a true and natural, natural man
And I’m gonna love you darlin, just long as I can
Cause you’re the one original, in god’s master plan
You are my, true and natural man
You are my, true and natural man
Track Name: Accidents
I’ll light the fire if you fuel the flame
I’ll lead the way if you let me
I’ll change the sheets, if you make the wash
Honey, I’ll be your love if you love me

and I came asking for not a thing and I got more
than I ever bargained for

Accidents happen my dear
Accidents happen my dear
You’re the best one that I’ve had
The best one that I’ve had in years

I’ll say the prayer if you bow your head
I’ll lead the way if you let me
I’ll bend my knee down to you if need be
Honey, I’ll be your love if you love me

and I came asking for not a thing and I got more
than I ever bargained for

Accidents happen my dear
Accidents happen my dear
You’re the best one that I’ve had
The best one that I’ve had in years
Track Name: I've Been Searching
I’ve been searching for a man who can
take the lead when I’m feeling weak
And I know that I don’t need no one
but baby that’s got nothing to do with us

You know my foot is gonna follow yours
One hand will wash the other
And when time falls deep upon your face
you know I’m gonna love you just the same

We won’t be kids forever
Beauty and brawn is gonna leave us
in the dust just as time always does
But this love, it’s gonna carry us
Our love is going to carry us

We spend most our lives just waiting around
for the wind to change direction
But that wind , it don’t settle down
No, it’s never gonna stay where it was found

Scratch my back babe when I’m feeling low
Love me like no other man ever could
Good lord willing and the creek don’t rise
I’ll walk with you, straight to the end of time
Track Name: Lines On The Road
you flew into my city
to see another friend of yours,
but we both know that it will be
my open floor, you’re sleeping on
we pretend not to know each other
in these new lives we have forged
and i pretend that i don't mind,
we’re only catching up on time, because
it’s convenient

well, you know, when you go
i will be counting lines on the road
‘til i remember, life moves slow
but we’re always moving along
and we don’t know why
sometimes we get it wrong
but we find our answers in
the new day’s sun
in every line on the road
in every line yet to come

the one i'm thinking of
he's got eyes as wide as diamonds (tries to hide ‘em)
and he's running wild tonight
out across east river's skyline
yeah he's filling up his hands
with the trappings of the flesh
oh just to try,
and ease his mind

well, you know, when you go
i will be counting the lines on the road
‘til i remember, life moves slow
but we’re always moving along
and we don’t know why
sometimes we get it wrong
but we find our answers in,
the new day’s sun
in every line on the road
in every line yet to come

long before the new days begins,
they’re baking tomorrow's daily bread
for all the starving bodies who do not know that they
are hungry yet
i could smell it oh so strong
thought that i felt it on my tongue
but i could not taste it yet
it's funny how sometimes
senses we normally rely on
can deceive us just like that

well, you know, when you go
i will be counting the lines on the road
‘til i remember, love moves slow
but we’re always moving along
and we don't know why
sometimes we get it wrong
we find our answers in
the new day’s sun
in every line on the road
in every line yet to come
Track Name: Water Keeps Rising
We would run up into the mountains, if we had the luxury
But we’re stuck down here in the lowlands, don’t got shoes upon our feet

And if the water keeps rising, we’re all going down

We cultivated your country, we have raised your precious sons
We taught you how to swing your hips and to sing that working man’s song

But if this water keeps rising, we’re all going down
If the water keeps rising, we’re all going down

They say in this great country, that we are all born as free men
But freedom here sure is hard to find, unless you can afford it

We gotta do for ourselves now, like we’ve always done
We gotta do for ourselves now, ‘til our tables are turned

Well, we’re camped out here in the lowlands, yeah the water’s sure getting high
babies all are crying cries that no mother knows how to quiet

And if this water keeps rising, we’re all going down
If the water keeps rising, we’re all going down

Give us good schooling systems, equal opportunity
So the working men can keep on working and not dying from this inequity

And if this water keeps rising, we’re all going down
If the water keeps rising, we’re all going down
All going down

We do not want no hand outs, we got ideas of our own
But we need the tools to build with, so we can have our lives
and you can have yours

And if this water keeps rising, we’re all going down
If the water keeps rising, we’re all going down

Yeah, the water’s sure getting high,
That water’s sure getting high, sure getting high
Track Name: I Know a Man
I know a man in pulse and fingertips
the outline of a soul in every single movement
I held him close, without any reserve
Left all memory of reasoning behind me

I know a man, oh I know a man,
I do know that man

I know a man, held by the hands of saviors
on the edge of their seats
Wherever he wanders, he never ever seems,
never seems to leave me

I know a man, oh I know a man,
I do know that man
Oh my man
Track Name: Quittin Kind
Read the letter that you wrote
to let it pass the time
Cause lately we have just been
driving each other wild

Never thought it’d be easy, never knew it’d be so hard
but every time we take a jump, we just get stronger

Cause your love, babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind
No, your love babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind

Looking at the photograph
we took when we first met
We were young and we were free
didn’t hold nothing back

Sometimes the picture ain’t as clear as it once was
but every time we take a jump, we just get stronger

Cause your love, babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind
Oh, your love babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind

All the doubt a mind can hold, still just don’t add up
to more than you, cause I know you’re always more than enough

Cause your love, babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind
Oh, your love babe, ain’t the quittin’ kind
Track Name: Guess It's Gonna Take Some Time
I don't know about my leaders, but I do know well my faith
and I think it's gonna take some time

I don't know about this life, but they say I'm doin' fine
I guess I'll see it for myself in time

I don't know about the future, I don't pretend to know God
I don't speculate on nothing, don't need you to take me for no ride

Cause I do know that somewhere there's a higher point than here
So I practice patience, practice patience despite all my fears

I don't know about my city, nothing here ever moved fast
She’s got her head stuck in the future, but her body in the past

Can progress move forward with a history left intact?
Don't all souls evolve, ain’t that the point in all of this?

I don't know about my mother, she gone lost her job again
As that slope slides to retirement, she won't have much ground to stand

We were gonna be such big stars so money'd stop worrying us
Though we're living in the heavens, it still don’t pay too much

I don't know about my country, she's just flapping in the wind
Got the wool over her eyes and a pocket full of lead

They told us we were leaders and the cream rises to the top
but I guess it's gonna take some time

I don’t know about my schooling, seems they missed a thing or two
Cause I know every state capital but I forgot that golden rule

I was just trying to find freedom, not much different than you
But I left a mark, I left a mark, that I did not mean to

I don't know about myself, if I'm here or if I'm there
I don't know if all my efforts have ever got me somewhere

But while I'm around, you know, I guess I might as well
Work this job ‘til closing time, ‘til a change comes around

I don't know about freedom, if there's even such a thing
Cause the mind of a man is wired just to stay trapped in

You can meditate all day, hun, but it sure ain't gonna come quick
It takes a lifetime to learn, how to let go of it

It takes a lifetime just to learn, how to let go of it
