about

Kristin Diable announces new single "Magnolia" benefitting New Orleans' The Roots of Music program. //

"Music has always drawn me in as a universal language to connect people, especially in times and in ways where our usual interactions and communication fall short. The past year of social and political turmoil left me feeling a more urgent necessity to utilize our music more directly to do more for the community we care so much about.

We've recently cut a copy of JJ Cale's "Magnolia." This song embodies the slow-burn, lazy river longing of New Orleans and a sense of returning to a place that feels like home. We are releasing it as a one off digital release and wanted to correlate this single with a fitting community group in New Orleans, proceeds benefitting the group. The Roots of Music is a non-profit that focuses on student empowerment through music education and mentorship.

When I used to live on Jackson Square in the French Quarter I'd often spend lazy days listening to "Magnolia" and enjoying the park's tremendous magnolia blooms. On many of those days, the sounds of the Roots of Music kids floated by from their afternoon rehearsals in the Cabildo building. I'd watch the kids file out after rehearsals, always with a bit more skip in their steps than when they entered. They were laughing, joyous and free, as every child deserves to be, but as many in New Orleans (and the world) often do not have the privilege of being. Even as an unrelated bystander, the impact of this program felt palpable and immediately important.

We're excited to release this new single, with proceeds benefitting The Roots of Music and the important work they are doing here in New Orleans.

Much Love,
KD"
